Ensemble Mirage Thursday 13th March 2025, 7:30 pm Quartet for the End of Time
Programme: Quartet for the End of Time Walter Rabl - Quartet, OP. 1 Introductory talk on Messiaen quartet with excerpts Messiaen - Quartet for the End of Time
The Society is delighted to welcome back the exciting clarinettist Matthew Scott as part of the chamber group Ensemble Mirage. Performing in various instrumental combinations from trios to octets, this flexible group of dedicated chamber musicians explore the wonderful range of mixed wind-string-piano chamber repertoire. In this very special concert, we will hear Olivier Messiaen’s life affirming Quatuor pour la fine du Temps composed and first performed while in a prisoner of war camp in Silesia, January 1941. This is quite possibly one of the most significant concerts presented by the Society and should not be missed. To enhance the experience and understanding of Messiaen’s musical language in this monumental work, the format for this evening will be a little different to our usual concerts; following the opening quartet there will be an introductory talk about the piece. The quartet will then be performed after the interval; the second half will last about 50 minutes. Clarinet - Matthew Scott Violin - Alexandra Lomeiko Cello - Mike Newman Piano - Alexandra Vaduva
